Bowling Event in Celebration of 2024 World OKU Day | Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah | 21 December 2024

On 21 December 2024, a lively bowling event was held at Aman Bowl, Aman Central, marking the celebration of World OKU Day 2024. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 120 OKU individuals, their families, and staff from the Rehabilitation Medicine Department of HSB.

The ceremony was officiated by Puan Shahariah binti Saaduddin, Deputy Director of Management at HSB. Other key attendees included Dr Sharifah Hanisah binti Wan Mohd Akbar, Head of Rehabilitation Medicine Department; En Hazlee bin Omar, Head of Occupational Therapy Unit; En Helmi bin Hashim, Head of Physiotherapy Unit; and Dr Raja Nabila binti Raja Mohamed Anuar, Rehabilitation Medicine Specialist, who served as the coordinator for this program.

The program aimed to honor the abilities, uniqueness, and exceptional determination of individuals within the OKU community. It was designed to not only enhance physical health and wellness but also foster self-esteem, encourage teamwork, and strengthen relationships among all participants.

This event also marked a significant milestone with the debut of Keeogo technology, a smart-powered orthosis, in a recreational sports activity for the first time in Malaysia—and even Southeast Asia! This advanced robotic exoskeleton enhances leg movements, offering stability and mobility support to individuals, enabling them to enjoy bowling more comfortably and confidently. The initiative showcases how technology can bridge the gap between sports and the OKU community, highlighting the limitless potential of human spirit and innovation.

Congratulations to all participants for their incredible perseverance and courage. This competition stands as a step forward in building a more inclusive and supportive society.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all attendees, the organizing team, the Rehabilitation Medicine Department, the Kedah Rehabilitation Medical Association, Keeogo Malaysia, and everyone who contributed to the success of this event. Let’s continue to celebrate diversity and create opportunities for everyone!
